Name Description
Tax Policy Associates A not-for-profit company, founded to improve tax and legal policy, and the public understanding of tax. It was founded by Dan Neidle, a very well-known UK tax lawyer who also writes extensively on tax matters in a personal capacity. The website is full of good ideas, although not radical enough for some tastes.
Centax The Centre for the Analysis of Taxation (CenTax) focuses on the characteristics, behaviours and economic impacts of top earners and the wealthy, and the design of taxes affecting this group. Research is mainly quantitative, and they claim to work closely with tax advisors and the legal profession, as well as statisticians and policymakers. This collaboration enables them to provide evidence and evaluation that is academically rigorous.
Tax Foundation A US-based think-tank. Their research is guided by the principles of sound tax policy — simplicity, transparency, neutrality, and stability. Primarily US-focussed but also covers EU and global policy.
Office of Tax Simplification The now defunct Office of Tax Simplification was an independent office of HM Treasury. The office was created in 2010 to identify complexities in the tax system burdensome to both businesses and individual taxpayers in order to recommend their reduction.
